The tower fell into terrible disrepair, shown here before restoration in 2013. It is now more gothic than gothic, i.e., exceedingly flamboyant. The tower is what remains from an 11th-century chapel that grew into a large cathedral. It was destroyed in the mid 19th-century 3rd revolution, its stone sold for money to go into state coffers.
